It was standing room only at the Women in Planning event “Success At Appeal: Tips, Trips and Traps” held in association with Kings Chambers at Manchester City Council’s Council Chamber on Friday 5th October.
Sarah Reid, Planning Barrister at Kings Chambers and Committee Member of Women in Planning North West chaired, and was instrumental in organising, the highly successful event. Over 150 people from across the planning professions attended to hear practical advice on how to prepare for and put forward the best case on appeal. Presentations were delivered by:
Paul G. Tucker QC (‘Stories from the Trenches’).
The concluding event in the programme was the hotly-anticipated mock planning inquiry. Six brave volunteer witnesses were cross-examined by Kings Chambers Planning Barristers Sarah Reid and Constanze Bell. Ruth Stockley, also a Planning Barrister at Kings Chambers, acted as Planning Inspector for the mock inquiry, asking witnesses challenging ‘Inspector’s questions’.
For the LPA, the witnesses called by Constanze Bell were: Charlotte Morphet (London Borough of Waltham Forest); Gemma Wheatley (SCP Transport); and Eleanor Gingell (South Northamptonshire Council).
For the Appellant, the witnesses called by Sarah Reid were: Holly Roberts (Gladman Developments Ltd); Carla Fulgoni (The Planning Bureau); and Frances Horne (Pegasus Group).
Kings Chambers and Women in Planning would like to thank all of those who were involved in organising and participating in the event.
