Satinder Hunjan QC has secured damages for Claimants in excess of £100m in recent weeks.
The latest of the cases involved life changing brain injuries suffered by a three month old baby as a result of negligent mismanagement during intensive care at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Satinder acted in dealing with the issues of liability which were eventually compromised to the extent of 90% in the Claimant’s favour in the subsequent quantification of the claim. The claim was compromised with the Claimant receiving a lump sum and annual periodical payments for life. Taking into account the Claimant’s life expectancy the capitalised sum was around £20m (£19,774,265). On 100% liability basis the claim would have a capitalised value of around £22m.
This case comes on the heels of two other awards with a capitalised value of around £20m each and two with a capitalised value of around £17m each arising out of clinical negligence or road traffic accidents as well as a case of total blindness and one of double amputation involving record damages being paid.
What is of most importance with these awards is not their level but that the victims of negligence are placed in the best position that financial provision can reasonably achieve following the devastating injuries that have been suffered which have been life changing not only for them but also for their families.
