Samantha Morris (Widow of Aaron Morris) v North East Ambulance Service (and others).
Sam Harmel represented the widow of Aaron Morris at an Inquest into his death.
Aaron was pronounced dead at the University Hospital of North Durham at 18.40 on 1st July 2022 having sustained injuries in a road traffic collision at shortly before 12.27 that day. Following 3 days of evidence, the Coroner determined that “It is highly likely that he would have survived had available specialist medical treatment been applied in a timely manner. That it was not was due to a) delayed allocation of an ambulance to deploy to the scene due to overstretched resources and b) the failure of the Ambulance Service’s Clinical Team Leader to deploy from 12.52 when there was certainly enough evidence for her to do so”.
The Coroner concluded that Aaron died from injuries sustained in a road traffic collision and failures in the responses of the Ambulance Service, contributed to by neglect.
Dr Kat Noble, Medical Director of North East Ambulance Trust (NEAS) said the service “unreservedly apologise” for not providing the right care and added “we accept that opportunities were missed to deploy a clinical team leader to this incident,” and that the service fully accepts the coroner’s findings and has taken a number of actions as a result of its investigations into Mr Morris’s death.
Samantha said the transparency shown by bodies such as NEAS was “appreciated”.
Sam Harmel was instructed by Laura Gabbey-Cristofini and Maria Harvey of Irwin Mitchell Solicitors.
