Due to an increase in work in this area, a vacancy has arisen for a Civil Clerk to join our Business and Property Team. The role encompasses all areas within the scope of the Business & Property courts, other forms of ADR and the specialist area of Costs and Litigation funding.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Providing day to day support as a member of the Clerking Team and in particular, working closely with two experienced Clerks
  • Assist in the managing the day-to-day practice of members with duties including, but not limited to, diary/work management, fee negotiation and billing
  • Opportunity to assist with Business Development for both the Team and individuals with an emphasis on client relationship management and service delivery
  • Assist in other areas of civil work as required
  • Day to day clerking of the Costs team in conjunction with the Senior Clerk.

Suitable candidates would ideally already be working in a similar chambers environment and have a proven record although training will be provided to any suitable candidate.

Qualities Required

  • Ideally a proven track record of clerking in a similar role (desired but not essential), graduate or experience of working within the professional services sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate confidently and efficiently in a corporate setting, both written and orally.
  • The ability to develop and maintain strong internal relationships at all levels.
  • Well-developed influencing skills whilst remaining diplomatic, pragmatic and sensitive.
  • Co-ordination and prioritisation of workflow, trouble-shooting and the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Strong level of IT literacy including databases & common office systems (e.g. Excel, Word, email- Outlook)
