Rachel practices almost exclusively in the fields of clinical negligence, personal injury and coronial law.
Rachel regularly accepts instructions from solicitors representing both Claimants and Defendants. She has particular experience in clinical negligence matters (and inquests arising out of medical complications). She undertakes cases of all values, including high value claims arising out of road traffic accidents or medical negligence and has significant experience in fatal accident claims.
Rachel was appointed to the Attorney-General’s provincial panel of Counsel in 2012 She has appeared on behalf of government departments, including the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Justice and the Probation Service/NOMS in personal injury and clinical negligence cases and at inquests.

Rachel undertakes clinical negligence work arising out of numerous areas of medical specialty, including Psychiatry, Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Practice, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Hepatobiliary surgery, Dental, Neurology and Maxillofacial surgery.
Rachel is frequently instructed to represent interested persons at inquest. She has experience in representing such persons during lengthy Article 2 inquests (lasting many weeks) with and without a jury. In this context, Rachel often represents families, NHS Trusts, Ambulance services, General Practitioners and other Doctors insured through the MDU or the MPS, the Prison Service and the Probation Service. Many inquests involve complex medical issues and Rachel has extensive experience in questioning medical experts and lay medical witnesses in this context.
Rachel undertakes a large amount of work for Defendants in this area. She has experience in claims arising out of industrial deafness, asbestos exposure and exposure to vibratory tools.
Rachel’s personal injury practice predominantly consists of Defendant work; however, Rachel does also represent Claimants in this area. Rachel has represented in her own right (and as junior counsel to leading counsel) Defendant insurers in high value claims arising out of road traffic collisions and accidents at work. She also carries out work for the Government Legal Department arising out of accidents by prisoners and employees in the workplace. Further, Rachel frequently represents insurers at interim hearings and trial in cases arising out of industrial disease.
