AE v DDSarah Pritchard has successfully defended a Nurse Practitioner who was accused of failing to refer a patient with angle closure glaucoma to a GP. As a consequence of the alleged breach of duty, the patient became blind in his right eye. All issues of breach of duty and causation were disputed. The trial was heard over 5 days in the Royal Courts of Justice and HHJ Seys Llewellyn QC (sitting as a High Court Judge) described the matter as a “complex and thereby challenging case”. The claim was dismissed with an order for the Claimant to pay the Defendant’s costs in full.
