Kings Chambers personal injury barrister Francesca Gardner, has recently featured in a ground-breaking diversity film funded by the North Eastern Circuit, in partnership with the 4 Inns of Court and the Bar Council.  The film sees Francesca, who is of mixed British, Jamaican and Italian heritage but hails from Dewsbury near Leeds, share her journey to the Bar and her experiences in developing her successful practice.

The video is aimed at school and college age students and is designed to encourage as many as possible to see the Bar as a potential career for them, regardless of their backgrounds.  It is hoped that the film should be available in every school in the country.

Francesca observed, “I am so proud of the North Eastern Circuit for this initiative.  It is crucial that the Bar reflects the society it serves, and we sincerely hope this video will encourage many students, whatever their background, to pursue a career as a barrister.  We are committed as a chambers to working to improve access to the Bar and increase diversity across the board.”

In addition to Francesca’s work on this project, and as the Racial Diversity and Social Mobility Champion within Kings Chambers, she has been fundamental in launching the 10,000 Black Interns Scheme at Kings Chambers.  The programme aims to offer 2,000 internships each year for five consecutive years in various industries.  This year marks the first year of Kings Chambers involvement in the scheme, and we are very much looking forward to our first intern starting towards the end of June.
