Members of Kings Commercial team were involved on all sides in the recent trial in the Mercantile Court before HHJ Waksman QC of McGill v The Sports and Entertainment Media Group, Bolton Wanderers FC and others. Football agent McGill represented by Martin Budworth sued 9 defendants for £300,000 representing the agent’s fee which he said he had lost as a result of being cut out of the deal to transfer Gavin McCann from Aston Villa to Bolton. Evidence was heard from several football insiders including Martin O’Neill, Jerome Anderson, Sammy Lee and Frank McParland. Following a 9 day trial, the Judge accepted McGill’s version of the events leading to McCann’s signing, but dismissed all of his wide-ranging claims including conspiracy, breach of confidence and inducing breach of contract. Lisa Walmisley represented SEM, Jerome Anderson, Jeffrey Weston and David Sheron; Neil Berragan represented Bolton, Philip Gartside, Simon Marland, Sammy Lee and Frank McParland.
