Over the course of 2020 we have organised and taken part in a number of fundraising initiatives for the benefit of North West charities and organisations. We know that many have struggled to raise essential funds this year, so we felt our support was needed now more than ever.

Our total was raised by a combination of appeals, many of which had to be adapted as a result of the pandemic. Here’s a roundup of some of our fundraising highlights …

Back in February, we kicked off our fundraising efforts by hosting a Valentine’s Day Quiz with IFA practice Nestor to raise money for the Child Brain Injury Trust. The event brought together 150 guests and raised £5,234. The charity supports families and professionals working with children suffering from the effects of a brain injury.

As well as events, our colleagues have taken on personal challenges this year. In the Spring, our Director of Clerking Stephen Loxton and Personal Injury barrister Toby Coupe joined forces with Irwin Mitchell to raise money for Day One Major Trauma Support, a charity which supports patients and family members in the aftermath of a major trauma. Toby Coupe and the Loxton family, including three-year-old Oscar, raised £2,417 by completing 7 marathons in 7 weeks.

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 2 teams of barristers and staff competed in the legal sector’s biggest charity bike race, the ‘Tour de Law.’ By the end of the week, our teams had covered 3,560km and raised a combined total of £6,273 for Breast Cancer Now, a charity which supports those affected by breast cancer and funds research.

We have supported Wood Street Mission, a charity which helps children and families affected by poverty in Manchester and Salford, for many years. This September, we raised £2,000 to support their SmartStart campaign.

We finished 2020 with our annual Christmas appeal, raising £8,920 for three local charities: Wood Street Mission, FareShare and the Booth Centre.

Head of Chambers Paul Tucker QC said ‘We’re delighted that the generosity of our clients, members and staff has allowed us to support so many fantastic charities in a year where many have struggled to raise essential funds. It is a fabulous achievement on behalf of all of those who have given their time and effort to raise money for such worthy causes. Well done to all involved”
