Kings Chambers is pledging its support for a Manchester charity which supports women into employment.
The leading Manchester based barristers’ set is making the pledge on International Women’s Day.
Barristers, clerks and staff at Kings Chambers are being tasked with bringing in as many items of interview clothing as possible for the charity Smart Works, before items are handed over on 31st March. The set is also raising money in support of the charity’s work.
Smart Works is a UK charity with an office in Manchester that helps unemployed women back into the workplace by providing high-quality interview clothes, styling advice and interview training.
The initiative was led by Lesley Anderson QC and Helen Mulholland, barrister at Kings Chambers.
Helen Mulholland said;
“Smart Works provides an invaluable service, helping hundreds of women in Manchester back into employment. We’re challenging everyone at Kings Chambers to raid their wardrobes and donate any smart clothing and shoes they no longer need. From suits, to shirts, blouses, dresses and handbags, we want to collect as may items as possible to make a real difference to the charity.
“We want to support organisations that play an active role in helping people in the communities in which we work. Smart Work fits the bill perfectly.â€
“I was hugely impressed by Smart Works and all that they do: not only do they provide elegant work clothes and styling advice to women, they also give crucial interview training.
“We are proud to support them, and it seemed apt to launch our drive on International Women’s Day and in the year which marks one hundred years since women’s suffrage: a movement which was of course cradled in our great city of Manchester.â€
Smart Works launched in 2015 and is a service for unemployed women who have an upcoming interview. The service is currently running in six locations across the UK: North London, West London, Edinburgh, Greater Manchester, Reading and Birmingham
