Winners! Kings Chambers is delighted to announce that pupils, Nick Taylor, Arevik Jackson and Shaylla Shabbir represented Kings Chambers at the WCA 2020 Mediation Competition, held at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London over the weekend of 24th to 26th January 2020 and won the Mediation Skills Award and overall prize.
The seventh UK Mediation Skills Competition was by special invitation and open to law students and trainees and pupils at UK Universities, Law Colleges, Law Schools, Law Firms, Inns of Court and Barristers’ Chambers. The prestigious event included teams from 39 Essex, Falcon Chambers, Linklaters, Osborne Clarke and TLT.
Students in each team adopted the role of counsel and client and sought to resolve a commercial dispute working with each other, their counterparty and an experienced mediator. Their performance was evaluated by an esteemed judging panel including Margaret Bickford-Smith QC (Master of the WCA), Sir David Foskett, retired HC judge and Chairman of the Civil Mediation Council.
Sam Karim QC and Andrew Singer QC of Kings Chambers Arbitration Group said:
“It was wonderful to be invited again to the WCA annual competition and enter a very promising young team who performed magnificently against esteemed competition. The future is bright!’’
