Our tradition of supporting the local communities in which we are based has been very successful for many years now. At this time of year and in lieu of sending Christmas cards, members and staff at Kings Chambers come together to support our chosen charities.
We are in our 12th year of supporting the Wood Street Mission’s Christmas Appeal, helping to ensure that children and their families across Greater Manchester who are struggling to make ends meet receive toys, gifts and treats for Christmas.
Christmas is an especially difficult time of year for families affected by poverty and the Wood Street Mission aims to ease the strain for struggling parents by ensuring that no child goes without by providing new toys and treats for every child. We also have 10 barristers and members of staff volunteering at the Wood Street Mission over the course of next week.
The Booth Centre is a community centre run with people affected by homelessness, providing a warm welcome and an opportunity to gain a purpose and rebuild their lives. Their programme includes activities such as volunteering, creative projects and sports, as well as training and help to gain employment. They also support people to improve health and wellbeing, to access emergency accommodation, and to secure and maintain a permanent home. The Centre is run in partnership with the people who attend, and they apply their skills and experience to influence strategic change.
The Children’s Book Project (Leeds) accepts both new and pre-loved children’s books in good condition.
Andrew Singer KC, Head of Chambers commented: “Barristers, clerks and staff at Kings Chambers have yet again come together to raise funds for our chosen charities as part of our Community Initiative supporting poverty and education. All these charities do a fantastic job, and we are delighted to make our contribution.”
