Since the launch of the Kings Chambers Community Initiative in Autumn 2021 Kings Chambers has partnered with further charities in both our local communities and more widely.
This year is the first full year following the launch and we are delighted to report that we have raised and donated in excess of £90,000. We’d like to thank our clients, members and staff for the part they have played in helping Chambers make such a success of this CSR initiative.
We have supported the Wood Street Mission, a charity which helps children and families affected by poverty in Manchester and Salford, for many years. This year we have supported their annual Books Forever campaign, their Back to School Smart Start campaign and their Christmas gift campaign. Several of our members of staff are also participating in volunteering days to help with this campaign.
On 6th October we were delighted to see the return of the annual Child Brain Injury Trust fundraising quiz, held in partnership with Chase de Vere. This year we raised a fantastic £5,000 through our quiz and raffle ticket sales. We’d like to thank all our clients who attended the quiz and for their kind donations to the raffle.
2022 saw the introduction of a new exciting charity to the initiative. Embassy Village is a start-up venture by homeless charity EMBASSY, which aims to create a new community in Manchester that will provide much-needed wrap-around support for the city’s homeless and vulnerable men. We have committed to corporate sponsorship for a minimum of three years to assist with funding or their project providing support to the homeless community prior to the opening of the scheme.
This is now our 3rd year as a chambers supporting The Booth Centre as part of our wider Christmas Charity Fundraiser. Funds raised are donated via the Big Give, their partner, which is a fund-matching service and doubles all donations received in this way.
Through our Christmas fundraiser, we were also able to support a local charity, The Hope Centre, based in Trafford, with their Christmas Support to those that need it in the local community. The fund provides assistance with food, children’s gifts and emergency help perhaps with fuel and other essentials.
Our partnership with Day One Trauma Support provides our commitment to fund a support worker. The charity helps those who have suffered a major traumatic injury and their family, to navigate the challenges they are likely to face.
Earlier in the year, we fundraised and made a chambers wide donation to the Disasters and Emergency Appeal in aid of Ukraine. Funds raised by the DEC help them to deliver food, clean water and medical care to communities and provide vital support to refugees in neighbouring countries. This donation was made via the Big Give to double the amount they receive.
Head of Chambers Andrew Singer KC said: “Kings is delighted to be able to assist these incredibly important charities, especially in the current economic situation. We are aiming to increase our support year on year and hope to continue providing monetary and time support for those in need”.
