On 15th May 2015 the Planning Inspectorate granted a 4 year extension to the Arpley landfill site south of Warrington after 5 years of bitter disputes and 2 hard fought public inquiries Warrington BC, and FCC – the UK’s largest landfill operator.

Counsel from Kings were involved on both sides in this saga with David Manley QCadvising Warrington BC and Paul G Tucker QC and Martin Carter advising FCC. Following the first public inquiry for a larger scheme the parties were able to arrive at a position which has now enabled tipping to continue at Arpley to complete the landform and accomodate the short term need until the new Energy from Waste facility at Teeside is operational.

This decision is considered by all involved to be of crucial importance to the NW economy until alternative technolgies are available.
