TN was aged 29 when a negligently-conducted neurosurgical operation left her largely confined to a wheelchair. She is paralysed on her left side and has diminished movements of her right eye; her life expectancy is reduced by several years.
Liability was initially denied but was admitted after proceedings had been issued, although causation remained in dispute.
At a settlement meeting, her claim was compromised for a lump sum payment of £1.3m, with a periodical payments order for £55,000 per year until she reaches 55 and £80,000 per year thereafter: capitalised, the equivalent lump sum would have been around £3.1m.
Jeremy was instructed by Sharon Banga, of Thompsons Solicitors in Birmingham.
