In the first of a new series of newsletters on matter of costs and litigation funding written by the Costs Team at Kings Chambers, Andrew Hogan considers the key points to be drawn from the report and consultation paper on revised guideline hourly rates recently published by Mr Justice Stewart’s working group. The report suggests that guideline hourly rates should be increased on a broadly inflationary basis and this newsletter considers the approach adopted by the working group, the evidence (or lack of it) to support an increase, and the wider costs context in which the consultation is taking place.
