The International Festival for Business is set to hear from leading commercial barrister David Casement QC on how legal services are supporting investment and partnerships across the Irish Sea.

Industries labelled by the organisers as ‘Blue Growth’ or having a connection to the Irish Sea including offshore wind energy, fisheries and aquaculture, biotechnology, coastal recreation and tourism are all benefiting from improving business relations between the UK and Ireland and David will explain how the neighbouring countries’ lawyers are playing a pivotal role in getting new ventures off the ground.

David, who is based out of Kings Chambers is also joint chairman of the British Irish Commercial Bar Association, which links up the four legal jurisdictions of England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland, says;

“Business relations across the Irish Sea are continually improving and commercial dispute resolution services are a fundamental part of that process. In that context, legal services are now business enablers, ensuring new business ventures can get off the ground.

“All too often, ventures would fail before they had event started if a planning, competition or funding issue got in the way, but now with the assistance of a more commercially minded legal sector, with services like arbitration and mediation that are affordable and relevant, investors can have much greater certainty going forward.”

The ‘Blue Growth’ agenda has been set by the event’s organisers the Irish Sea Maritime Forum who have made this the focus of what will be their third annual conference, to be held in Liverpool on 2nd July.

The conference is linked to the International Festival for Business that is being held in Liverpool during summer 2014. It aims to showcase the ‘Blue Growth’ potential in the Irish Sea region and to feed this into an ISMF report later in the year.
