John Barrett has recently won an appeal in respect of a site at Birkdale Southport for the Belong Group – specialists in the provision of modern care accommodation. Planning permission was granted by Inspector Jason Whitfield for a specialist care facility comprising 74 bedrooms and 30 supervised apartments with ancillary facilities on a site of 0.73 ha within the West Birkdale Conservation Area. The Inspector rejected the case of Sefton MBC that alleged the proposal was harmful to the heritage asset and concluded that appeal proposal preserved the character and appearance of the Conservation Area.
