Will practises across a range of chambers’ specialisms, with a focus on clinical negligence, personal injury, inquest, regulatory, and public inquiry work.

Will adopts a sensitive, client-focussed, and detailed approach to all cases on which he is instructed and is always willing to work to tight deadlines.

Recently, Will has acted as junior junior counsel to the Department of Health and Social Care across multiple modules of the Covid Inquiry.

Will completed his pupillage under the supervision of Claire Steward and Louise Green.

Expertise

Will has a busy clinical negligence practice and is regularly instructed to represent both claimants and defendants. Will has experience across an array of clinical negligence cases, including those involving issues of delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis, negligent treatment and surgery, and the misadministration of prescription medication.

As part of his clinical negligence practice, Will has acted as sole counsel in cases issued in the High Court and regularly appears at CCMCs, PTRs, infant approval hearings, and interim applications.

Alongside his court practice, Will frequently settles Particulars of Claim and Schedules of Loss in high-value claims, including in claims valued in excess of £1 million. Will is also regularly instructed by NHS Resolution and private insurers to settle Defences and Counter-Schedules, and to provide strategy and quantum advices.

Given Will’s inquest practice, he is regularly instructed to act for families and healthcare trusts in clinical negligence claims arising from coronial proceedings.

Notable Clinical Negligence & Healthcare cases


B v F

Will led a multi-expert conference and settled the Particulars of Claim and Schedule of Loss. The case involved complex issues of medicine arising from perforated diverticulitis and included expert input in gastroenterology, radiology, and psychology. After service of the pleadings, the Defendant admitted liability.


Q v R

Will provided a written advice on quantum and litigation strategy in a claim involving a delayed diagnosis of glaucoma leading to a severely compromised visual field. This claim was further complicated by concerns raised about the claimant’s risk of vision loss in their remaining eye. Following Will’s advice, the claim settled for £50,000.00.


I v P

Having been led by Michael Rawlinson KC at the inquest, Will acted as sole counsel in the subsequent High Court proceedings arising out of a significant prescribing error. Due to its unique circumstances, this case included a claim both for the deceased’s estate and for the claimant in their own right as an involuntary participant.


G v C

Will settled the Defence in a claim involving the delayed diagnosis and treatment of the claimant’s ectopic pregnancy. The claim was valued at in excess of £300,000.00.

Will’s personal injury practice predominantly involves cases on the intermediate and multi-track.

For Claimants, Will accepts instructions across a broad range of personal injury cases, including those involving road traffic accidents, claims involving fatalities, employers’ liability and public liability claims. Will has also recently been brought in to assist more senior members of chambers in cases involving catastrophic injury.

For Defendants, Will regularly acts in all manner of personal injury cases, but he has particular experience with cases involving allegations of fundamental dishonesty. Prior to commencing his career at the Bar, Will worked as a paralegal at a global law firm in their counter-fraud team.

O v P

Will drafted an updated schedule of loss in a claim arising involving complex orthopaedic and maxillofacial injuries. Following service of the updated schedule, the claim was settled for £75,000.00.


R v F

Acting for the Defendant, Will provided a written strategy advice in an occupiers’ liability claim involving an NHS Trust after concerns were raised regarding fundamental dishonesty. Following Will’s advice, the Defendant appropriately refused settlement offers and the Claimant discontinued the claim the day before trial.


Y v T

Acting as second junior to Gerard McDermott KC, Will assisted in the preparation of a Schedule of Loss in a claim for catastrophic injuries arising from a road traffic accident. The pleaded value of the claim was in excess of £15 million.


W v Z

Working alongside a more senior member of chambers, Will assisted in drafting a Schedule of Loss in a claim involving a child brain injury. The pleaded value of the claim was in excess of £1.3 million.

Will is regularly instructed by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to represent Registrant Nurses at hearings before the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), including Interim Conditions of Practice Order Review Hearings and Substantive Order Review Hearings.

Previously, Will was also instructed to advise the RCN on the NMC’s ‘Open Justice Procedure’.

Will acted as junior junior counsel to the Department of Health and Social Care during multiple modules of the Covid Inquiry. Will worked alongside Richard Borrett and was led by Fiona Scolding KC and contributed to the analysis of evidence and the preparation of witness statements for a former Secretary of State, government ministers, and a SAGE scientist.

Will is also a member of the Attorney General’s Junior Junior Scheme.
