Sir Maurice Kay was called to the bar in 1975 following a period in academia. During his career at the bar, Sir Maurice embraced a wide-ranging practice which included sitting as an Arbitrator overseas. He was appointed a High Court Judge (Queen’s Bench Division) in 1995. He also was:

Judge of Employment Appeal Tribunal (1995-2003)

Judge of Administrative Court (1997-2003)

Judge in Charge of the Administrative Court (2002-2003)

Presiding Judge of Wales and Chester Circuit (1996-1999)

In 2004 he was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal, in which capacity he sat until 2014. Sir Maurice was also Vice President of the Court of Appeal (Civil Division) for 5 of those years.

During his time in the Court of Appeal, Sir Maurice sat on some of the country’s most significant appeals.

Sir Maurice now accepts appointments as an Arbitrator for both domestic and international arbitrations whether independently or as a member of arbitral panels.
