Fiona Ashworth has a nationwide reputation acting in cases involving Chronic Pain Syndromes, Complex Regional Pain Syndromes, Chronic Fatigue Syndromes, Somatoform Pain Disorders, Somatic Symptom Disorders, Bodily Distress Disorders, Conversion Disorders, Functional Neurological Disorders and Fibromyalgia. She is considered to be a leading expert on pain and functional disorders.
These conditions are often little understood and extremely challenging. Fiona has built up a deep knowledge and understanding of these cases working with medical experts of all different specialisms over the years. She has been involved in hundreds of such cases, both at first instance and on appeal, acting for both Claimant and Defendant.
Fiona has lectured extensively over the country, has organised numerous Pain Seminars and has contributed published articles on the topic. She was a delegate at the Pain Summit at Westminster. She was a speaker at the medico-legal forum at Peterhouse College Cambridge 2015 and has been invited as a speaker in 2024 and was a speaker at the British Pain Society’s 50th Annual Conference.
She also has wide experience in personal injury related professional negligence cases.
Fiona is the patron of Burning Nights CRPS charity and works alongside the founder Victoria Abbot Fleming in raising awareness of CRPS.
Fiona has sat as a Recorder since 2009.
C sustained a Lisfranc injury to his foot when a heavy load fell on it
He developed CRPS in the affected limb and then after about 3m years developed CRPS in the other foot which spread up his legs.
His claim included loss of earnings, care, OT, accommodation and a claim for disabled friendly aviaries so that he could continue his hobby of keep ing birds together with a professional bird keeper to maintain their health.

Woman aged 28 underwent negligent labial reduction that resulted in removal of excessive amounts of tissue leading to chronic vulvodynia and major depressive disorder. She complained of continuing pain and disfigurement that was not amenable to revision surgery.
Her relationship failed and she left work.
Case settled for £450k at a Round Table Meeting.
Claimant suffered avulsion injury to the calcaneum which was expected to resolve in a matter of months. Instead, he developed CRPS, causing agonising pain and skin breakdowns. He suffered low mood and his marriage broke down. Due to risk of sepsis, he underwent a below knee amputation 5 years after the accident. His claim included prostheses and rehabilitation, accommodation, care which was predicted to increase as he aged and aids and appliances.
