Kings Chambers has been providing excellence in Planning for over 70 years. Chambers was founded as a response to the 1947 Act by C N Glidewell, and has an unrivalled reputation for the highest standards of advice and advocacy.

Kings Chambers has produced some of the leading practitioners in the field of Planning. In recent years that has included figures of the eminence of Charles Cross, Sir Iain Glidewell (a former Lord Justice of Appeal), Sir Douglas Brown (formerly The Hon Mr Justice Douglas Brown) and Mrs Justice Patterson. Chambers is proud that a former member now sits in the new Planning Court: The Hon Mr Justice Gilbart.

Members of Chambers have been involved with most of the major development projects in the North West of England, as well as many others nationwide. From the Retail Inquiry which led to the Trafford Centre and the Second Runway at Manchester Airport in the 1990s, and all manner of developments since, members of Chambers are nationally renowned as providing an excellent service.

Members of Chambers are well experienced at dealing with both the smallest hearings and the largest inquiries, both of which involve different though complementary skills for the advocate. Members will assist in drafting submissions as to the mode of appeal (often in the teeth of a different view from the Planning Inspectorate) as well as advising and representing clients throughout the process of securing planning consent. Chambers prides itself on a team-working approach and Members make themselves available to guide the preparation of cases from an early stage of the process.

Members of Chambers represent and advise both developer and local authority clients. We regularly work with very many local authorities right across the country and with a large number of private sector clients, both small and large.

Members of Chambers regularly appear in the Courts in Judicial Reviews or challenges in the Administrative Court and Planning Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Members can represent clients in the Magistrates' and Crown Courts in criminal matters relating to planning and connected areas of law.

There are presently five Queen's Counsel and 19 junior counsel who regularly act in planning cases. Together they have contributed to the recognition of Chambers as a pre-eminent Planning Set.
