Costs and Litigation Funding
With five individual rankings and being the only regional set ranked in Chambers & Partners UK since 2016, it is plain to see why the Costs and Litigation Funding Team at Kings Chambers is rightly acknowledged as being known for “strong specialist expertise in Costs” (Legal 500 2019). Members frequently appear in the SCCO as well as enjoying regular appearances across the appellate courts from the county court to the Supreme Court.
What our Costs & Litigation Funding Barristers offer
The team’s work comprises a broad spectrum of contentious business to include advice, drafting and advocacy in respect of detailed assessments, appeals, fixed costs disputes, solicitor own client disputes, wasted or non-party costs orders and allegations of misconduct. The team also provides non-contentious business advice to solicitor’s practices including the drafting of retainers.
In addition to its national practice, the team is described in the directories as enjoying a “dominance of the Northern Circuit”, and is widely considered to be the ‘go-to’ team for disputes in the North of England.
Beyond the courtroom, the team offers seminar training to clients as well as contributing to the Association of Costs Lawyer’s online resources.
Qualified costs draftsman
Three members of chambers are Fellows of the Association of Costs Lawyers. This means that they have completed a course on the law and practice of costs, and that they have passed a competitive examination. They are the only practising barristers ever to have done this. The course has given them insight into areas of costs which counsel rarely see, such as dealing with applications for public funding, criminal costs, bill drafting, etc. It has also required them to demonstrate their competence and expertise in this field in an objective way.
Kings Chambers supports the ACL and wishes to foster a close relationship between costs counsel and costs draftsmen.
