Toby is ranked as a leading junior by both Chambers UK and the Legal 500. He is instructed on behalf of Claimants and Defendants in equal measure, in high value personal injury litigation, which generally arises out of accidents on the road, at work and in public places. Increasingly, the majority of his work involves individuals who have sustained traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries.

Toby has a nationwide serious injury practice, which often leads to him being instructed to represent interested parties at inquests, in order to provide early strategic advice and assess the merits of any potential claims. Toby is an experienced jury advocate and in 2018 he was appointed Junior Counsel to the Crown, which has resulted in him being instructed to represent a number of government agencies in the Coroner’s Court.
Toby has a nationwide serious injury practice, evenly split between representing catastrophically injured Claimants, insurance companies, NHS Trusts, local authorities and the government, having been appointed Junior Counsel to the Crown in 2018.The majority of Toby’s work involves acquired brain and spinal cord injuries, claims arising out of fatal accidents and significant orthopaedic injuries, often leading to amputation and/or chronic pain. In the last six months alone, Toby has helped to recover: £9.8 million on behalf of a Claimant with a T9 spinal cord injury, £7.8 million on behalf of a Claimant with an acquired brain injury and £3.7 million on behalf of a Claimant with an above knee amputation. He is currently instructed in a number of claims pleaded to a value in excess of £5 million, both as junior alone and with the benefit of Leading Counsel.
