Kings Chambers is proud to host the Patterson Memorial Court of Protection and Public Law Conference. Featuring a keynote speech from Mr Justice Jeremy Baker and lectures by the specialist Court of Protection and Public Law team at Kings Chambers.
The conference is essential for solicitors who practice in Court of Protection, healthcare, and community care law.
The conference will include training on important and topical issues in the Court of Protection & Public Law, including:
- The role of mediation in the Court of Protection
- Human Rights Act claims
- The role of the Court of Protection in end-of-life decisions
- Authorising children’s deprivations of liberty
- The Care Act 3 years on
- The top 10 Judicial Review cases from 2017
- An update and review of Inquest Law
This all-day conference will include lunch and a networking event, and is accredited for 4.5 CPD hours.
Kings Chambers Court of Protection and Public Law team includes leading national experts in mental capacity and public law. Members also regularly advise and act for public authorities and private individuals in legal disputes relating to healthcare and community care, including challenges under the Care Act 2014, the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Children Act 1989. Kings Chambers also hosts the Kings Serious Medical Treatment Group (KSMT) which provides advisory and advocacy support for all serious medical treatment cases in the Court of Protection, Family Division and the Inherent Jurisdiction. Members have expertise in withdrawing artificial hydration/nutrition, cancer treatment, application relating to individual’s permanent vegetative state, amputation, minimally conscious patients and cases involving the use of physical restraint and sedation. The service provided by KMST includes an out of hours advice and representation managed by a dedicated team of Clerks.
