Pain Syndromes

Richard acts for both Claimants and Defendants in cases involving pain syndromes and related conditions, including somatoform pain disorder, whether arising from personal injury or clinical negligence matters.

    
Significant Cases

HC v MOD: Claim by serving soldier who suffered a physically and psychologically traumatic injury whilst on exercise, leading to long-term leg termor and pain. Experts disagree as to whether Somatization Disorder or Functional Neurological Disorder, and as to causation. 

DW: Child claimant suffering possible neuropathic pain / CRPS due to scarring from multiple operations to the femur (some of which was not due to any negligence). Difficult issues of diagnosis and causation.

S v P: Advising on quantum in a case of exaccerbated thoracic outlet syndrome and chronic pain syndrome arising from a fall.
