Shokat has an established practice in personal injury and related fields of work. He is experienced in the full range of such work, with particular emphasis on road traffic claims (including cases involving allegations of staged/contrived accidents and phantom passengers, low velocity impact claims and exaggerated claims); claims involving the MIB; public liability claims; employers` liability claims (including claims involving workplace accidents, defective work equipment, manual handling, workplace stress, workplace bullying, work-related upper limb disorders and occupational diseases); industrial disease and respiratory claims (particularly noise-induced deafness, dermatitis, asthma and asbestos-related claims); and fatal accident claims.
He has extensive experience of conducting County Court and High Court trials, appeals (including Court of Appeal) and a variety of interlocutory hearings. He acts on behalf of Claimants and Defendants, providing advisory, drafting and advocacy services in the full range of injuries and levels of damage.
He has a wide range of experience in handling multi-track personal injury litigation with particular expertise in claims involving spinal injuries, brain injuries, serious orthopaedic injuries, occupational diseases and fatal accidents. He has considerable experience of preparing paperwork (Schedules of Damage/Counter-Schedules/Agenda and Questions for experts etc.) in both high value and medium value claims and in conducting settlement negotiations at Joint Settlement Meetings involving such claims.
He is experienced in all issues arising out of personal injury claims, including insurance issues. In addition, he often deals with claims involving clinical negligence and professional negligence with a personal injury element.
He is happy to undertake legal expenses and conditional fee work.
His career has embraced wide-ranging experience in general common law, which has included significant experience in handling asylum, immigration and nationality claims at all levels and representing Claimants in contested jury trials in claims for malicious prosecution/false imprisonment.

Shokat acts as legal advisor to a group of national newspapers based in Manchester, providing advice on libel and contempt of court. His experience of this type of work extends to more than 15 years.

Other career details:
Shokat has been a part-time law tutor. He provides seminars and training sessions for specialised departments within individual law firms and medical practitioners with interest in medico-legal work. In the last two years he has given a number of seminars in personal injury and related procedural matters, including low velocity impacts, occupiers` liability, minimising and maximising damages in high and medium value claims and credit hire law.
