Paul Hughes

Personal Injury

Year of Call: 2001

Paul has extensive experience in providing representation and specialist advice in all areas of personal injury including claims arising out of road traffic accidents, employer's and occupier's liability, public liability and industrial disease.

Profile:

Paul undertakes a broad range of fast and multi-track work.  He has particular experience of credit hire litigation and has lectures regularly on that and other topics of interest.

Given the national recognition afforded to him his ranking in Chambers and Partners for costs work, he is able to bring a commercial approach to the problems faced by clients and frequently remains instructed to deal with issues of principle arising out of claims for (or objections to) costs.

Paul acts for both Claimants and Defendants and is happy to undertake work on a CFA basis.

Cases of interest:

Paul has recently been involved in cases involving the following notable features:

  • Issue as to whether an impecunious Claimant's credit hire claim can be reduced without evidence of alternative rates;
  • The nature of the duty owed to skiers in open practice in winter sports centres;
  • Concurrent tortuous liability; the extent of a parent's duty to supervise their child;
  • The limits of an occupier's obligation to repair a pathway over which a right of way passed;

Recommendations:

Paul has been ranked in Chambers and Partners for Costs Litigation since 2008 (firstly as "Up and Coming", presently Band Two).
