Nick has undertaken a large number of cases in this field in both regulatory and disciplinary contexts.
Health & Safety
He has appeared in many health and safety cases for the prosecution and defence involving serious injury and death. He prosecuted one of the largest supermarket chains arising out of a fatal driving incident at their premises. He defended a special needs swimming teacher indicted for manslaughter arising out of the drowning of a child in a school swimming pool. He has appeared in a large number of cases arising out of building site deaths and serious injuries, falls from height, drowning, equipment collapses, farm accidents and incidents at medical premises.
In these cases Nick has drawn upon his extensive criminal experience over his years in practice appearing in many murder, manslaughter, death by driving and serious accident cases.
Regulatory
Nick has extensive experience in this field. He has appeared in a wide variety of tribunals including the following:
General Medical Council (for both the Council and the Respondent) involving cases of misdiagnosis, fraud, sexual misconduct, criminal conviction cases including forgery, theft, child pornography.
British Psychological Society - cases involving misconduct including involvement of members in sexual deviancy at secure hospitals
Jockey Club - innocent introduction of prohibited substances
General Dental Council - he sits as a legal assessor
Nick has appeared for the Catholic Church in successfully opposing a licensing application for a night club in Manchester, for one of the large retail chains accused of selling alcohol to under-aged purchasers and in a large number of licensing applications.
He has been involved in Proceeds of Crime applications both at trial and in the Court of Appeal involving large sums of alleged 'tainted' proceeds and complex applications under POCA.
