All areas covered but with particular
emphasis on public law related issues. Regularly instructed in cases
concerning homelessness and allocation of housing stock (Housing Act
1996, Parts 6 & 7) and applications for interim relief in the
Administrative Court.
Asylum support
Age assessments; benefits; inter-authority
conflicts; eligibility; NASS; section 4 hard cases support; Children
(Leaving Care) Act duties / responsibilities; National Assistance Act
overlap including "destitution plus" cases; housing rights and
application of Convention rights to all of the above.
Human Rights
Across all practice areas, including declarations of incompatibility and damages claims.
Court of Protection
All aspects including Property & Affairs, Welfare and DOL matters. Overlap with community care, social housing and other local authorities duties. Regularly represents local authorities, the Official Solicitor and individuals.
Inquests
Wide experience of dealing with deaths in custody (especially prison & police detention).
