Success for Wrexham CBC in quarry compensation claim

27 July 2011
The Lands Tribunal has dismissed a multi-million claim for compensation for loss of working rights in relation to a review of an old minerals planning permission at Hafod Quarry near Wrexham. The case turned in part on whether or not a derogation licence would have been likely to have been issued to permit mineral working within an area designated as a nature reserve for great crested newts which had subsequently been designated a SSSI/SAC.
Stephen Sauvain Q.C. and Eric Owen acted for the successful mineral planning authority Wrexham County Borough Council.
