Public law team continues to grow Melanie Plimmer joins chambers

We are delighted to announce that Melanie Plimmer has joined our fast-developing public law team from Garden Court North.

Ms Plimmer’s decision to join Kings adds a new dimension to the body of work we do, with her focus on the key areas of prison law, immigration and asylum, employment and discrimination law.

“I decided to join Kings Chambers because it is a modern and dynamic set. There is vibrancy about the public law team here and it has a great ambition to carry out much more judicial review work outside of London,” explained Ms Plimmer. “This is a particularly exciting time for judicial review work as the administrative court has been so successful since regionalisation was set in motion in April.

“I represent a number of particularly vulnerable claimants, arguing that they may have been deprived of their liberty or require expedited decision-making for reasons relating to their medical condition.  As such they need to have their applications determined quickly and it is of huge benefit to have such access to justice that we are seeing with the four new courts in operation across England and Wales.”

Described in glowing terms by Chambers & Partners 2009 as ‘Imaginative, creative and clearly at the forefront of the law’, among Ms Plimmer’s recent successes is her victory in Pennington v Parole Board, handed down by His Honour Judge Pelling QC on Sept 18th, in which she successfully argued that in failing to provide the claimant with a speedy hearing the Parole Board had breached Article 5(4).
