Memory of war veteran lives on in his favourite park

The High Court recently upheld the late William Higham’s wish to leave £2m of his £7m estate so that Military bands he loved to hear as a boy can play in the newly refurbished Victorian bandstand at his local Mesnes park.

The  ex bomber pilot left an ambiguous home-made will which was never formally completed by a solicitor, giving way to lengthy court proceedings. Mr Justice Mann has finally given the ruling that the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust will be able to use the income from the £2 million gift to fund performances.
