High Court rules in favour of Tesco/ Lancashire County Cricket Club development
10 March 2011
Chambers planners Stephen Sauvain Q.C., Paul Tucker Q.C. and Ian Ponter represented opposite sides in a long running retail development dispute between Derwent Holdings Limited (owners of White City Retail Park), Tesco Stores Limited and Trafford MBC.
The Secretary of State has now dismissed Derwent’s appeal against the refusal of its planning application for a superstore at White City and the High Court has dismissed Derwent’s
challenge to the grant of planning permission to Tesco and Lancashire County Cricket Club in respect of their joint application for a superstore and for the regeneration and re-development of the Lancashire County Cricket Club.
The re-development of the club grounds is intended to bring them up to the standard required for hosting international matches, including the Ashes.
Stephen Sauvain QC acted for Trafford MBC.
Paul Tucker QC, leading Ian Ponter, acted for Derwent Holdings Limited.
