The historical deference to the professions has faded away. The patient / client is now empowered. Challenges to the professional's fitness to practice are often matters of the utmost seriousness to both complainant and respondent.

The Practice Group offers excellent forensic, advisory and advocacy skills and experience which provide invaluable support in disciplinary proceedings whether for the disciplinary body or the professional facing a contentious hearing or allegations of misconduct. 

Our understanding of the needs of both the professional client and the disciplinary body has led to the development of a dedicated Group of Members who specialise in disciplinary work. 

Members have experience of acting for many high profile professional individuals and disciplinary bodies in a variety of tribunals at disciplinary hearings where the subject matter may range from challenging a sporting fine or sanction to the individuals livelihood where the ultimate sanction is to be struck off or erased from their profession.

The Group has experience of a variety of disciplinary contexts covering first instance disciplinary proceedings, appellate challenges and Administrative Court proceedings.  The professions covered include:

• Healthcare Practitioners;
• Veterinary Surgeons;
• Sporting Professionals;
• Police Officers;
• Accountants;
• Solicitors (including Law Society interventions); and
• Councillors and Public Officials.
