Development Plans

The Development Plan system has become ever more complicated over the last 20 years. From the introduction of the comprehensive district wide system introduced by the Planning and Compensation Act 1991 through to the ‘reforms’ of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, members have been on hand to guide developers, third parties and local authorities through the pitfalls of preparation.

Members of Kings Chambers have been involved on all sides in the promotion of and objection to development plans across the United Kingdom.

Members are currently promoting DPDs across the North of England, and were involved in the first Core Strategies to be adopted in the NW and Yorkshire, with substantial expertise in the following areas:

  • local development frameworks;
  • Regional Spatial Strategies;
  • the promotion of major schemes through the plan system;
  • objections to policies and proposals;
  • the environmental and procedural aspects of plan preparation

Members promoted the first local plan in the NW under the 1991 Act as well as the first core strategy to be adopted under the 2004 Act. Kings will continue to be at the forefront of development plan issues and the expected future reforms of the Coalition Government.
