Business advice and funding

The costs team are able to give advice about how to avoid pitfalls and maximize profit. Dr Friston, in particular, is well-known for his expertise in this area. The process is usually as follows:

  • Counsel will hold a conference during which he will ask a number of open ended questions designed to elicit to business objective of the firm in question;

  • Counsel will then draft an advice about the options open to the firm;

  • After having received instructions, counsel will draft the relevant retainers,
    agreements, deeds, etc which are required to give effect to counsel’s advice;

  • Counsel will then ask that the documents be tested within the IT framework in which they are to be used; and

  • Counsel will then hold a telephone conference to ensure that the paperwork meets expectations.

It is almost always that the case that this process unearths problems which, if left unresolved, could have cause harm to the firm in question; it is not uncommon for serious problems to come to light. We believe that it is a process which every sizeable firm should engage in at least once, and preferably every four or five years.
