Significant Reported Cases:

The Nimrod Crash Inquest (Oxford Coroner’s Court) – Largest loss of UK service personnel in a single incident since the Falklands War

Rothwell v Chemical & Insulating Co. Ltd “The Pleural Plaques test litigation”
Reported in the Court of Appeal [2006] ICR 1458. Due before the House of Lords in late June 2007. The litigation has been driven by the Defendants who wish to try to bring to an end a very large volume of litigation whereby those with inert discs on the inside of the chest wall arising from previous asbestos exposure have been receiving ever increasing levels of general and special damage. The Defendants succeeded before the Court of Appeal. Estimates vary about the value of the savings to the industry if this litigation is successful but estimates have appeared in the industry press in the region of £1 Billion.
