Profile:

Sarah Pritchard practises as a member of the common law group within Chambers and undertakes all aspects of personal injury and clinical negligence work.

She has developed a substantial reputation as a clinical negligence specialist with particular emphasis on cases involving birth damage. She also undertakes work on behalf of many health trusts in numerous inquests and has a developing practice in medical disciplinary tribunals.

Significant Work Includes:

Bolger v St Helens and Knowsley Hospital NHS Trust

Acted for the Defendants in a 3 day clinical negligence trial. Alleged surgeon’s negligence in performing bowel surgery. Complex expert evidence regarding surgical practice and procedure (lots of medical literature). Claimant discontinued half way through trial as his expert withdrew his support for the claim.

The Inquiry Into The Death Of Chloe Fahey

Counsel to the Inquiry. Investigating all aspects of care and treatment of psychiatrically unwell mother who murdered her young daughter. Vast amount of documentation, large numbers of witnesses and significant numbers of experts involved.

Cheng v Central Manchester NHS Trust

Acted for the Defendant in a 1 Day mediation of a clinical negligence action. The high value claim was mediated to a successful compromise (it had been listed for 8 day High Court trial). Complex midwifery issues.

Maher / Suthers v Alliance Dyes / ICI

Acted for the Defendants in bladder cancer cases where cancer alleged to have been caused by exposure to various chemicals. Highly technical expert evidence on (medical / industrial chemists / epidemiologists). Exposure not of a sort that previously has been considered causative.

Stone v BAE Systems

Acted for the Defendant in high value claim involving serious injuries occasioned to a Claimant when the canopy of a hawk jet exploded in his face. Technical issues regarding liability and quantum. Issues complicated as the Claimant was working in Middle East.

Hodges v Remington Consumer Products  

High value head injury case. The Claimant was a director of company and quantum issues were complicated due to the future loss claim which involved the valuation of a substantial share option scheme.
