Profile:

Ruth practises in all aspects of town and country planning, highways and rights of way, environment, village greens, taxi licensing, education, local government, administrative law, judicial review and compulsory purchase.

She has been involved in numerous UDP and local plan inquiries and has represented local authorities, developers and third parties in a wide range of public inquiries including major retail, housing, commercial and leisure developments as well as windfarms, mineral extraction and landfill proposals.

She appears before the Administrative Court in statutory appeals and judicial review proceedings. She also appears before the Lands Tribunal in compulsory purchase and compensation cases and in all the general civil and criminal courts in public law matters. She has also appeared before the Traffic Commissioner.

She has acted as an Inspector in non-statutory village green inquiries.

Ruth is the assistant editor of the Encyclopaedia of Highway Law and Practice (Sweet & Maxwell) and she regularly delivers papers to various planning and highway law conferences.

Significant Work includes:

UDP and local plan inquiries in which Ruth has been involved include Wigan, Gateshead and Rochdale UDP inquiries, Crewe and Nantwich BC, West Lancashire DC and South Ribble BC local plan inquiries.

She has also been involved in the inquiries into the redevelopment of New Brighton, the major retail development at Dumplington, major Transport and Works Act and Harbours Acts proposals and inquiries into motorway service areas.
