Public Law
All areas of judicial review with an emphasis on the following;
Community care
Adult and child social care policy and eligibility criteria; housing policy; continuing NHS care disputes; local connection and other inter-authority disputes; care home, day centre and hospital closures; adult and child protection; charging, registration, disciplinary and regulatory matters; contractual disputes; education issues; mental health; freedom of information and confidentiality; supporting people, supported housing and related benefits issues and all relevant aspects of the Human Rights Act, in particular those arising under Art 3, 5, 6, 8 and 14.
Social housing
All areas covered but with particular emphasis on public law related issues. Regularly instructed in cases concerning homelessness and allocation of housing stock (Housing Act 1996, Parts 6 & 7) and applications for interim relief in the Administrative Court.
Asylum support
Age assessments; benefits; inter-authority conflicts; eligibility; NASS; section 4 hard cases support; Children (Leaving Care) Act duties / responsibilities; National Assistance Act overlap including "destitution plus" cases; housing rights and application of Convention rights to all of the above.
Human Rights
Across all practice areas, including declarations of incompatibility and damages claims.
Court of Protection.
All aspects including Property & Affairs, Welfare and DOLS matters. Overlap with community care and other local authorities duties. Regularly represents local authorities, the Official Solicitor and individuals.
Inquests
Wide experience of dealing with deaths in custody (especially prison & police detention).
