Vincent Fraser QC has secured consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act and deemed
planning permission has been granted for the Tween Bridge proposal.
The proposal by E.ON UK Renewables Limited is for 22 3MW wind turbines of 125 metres in
height at Thorne, South Yorkshire. This is one of the biggest onshore wind farm schemes
approved in England.
The application was considered at a nine week inquiry in the first half of 2007. The proposal was opposed at the inquiry by a number of bodies in addition to the local planning authority. The site is adjacent to a special protection area and English Nature and the RSPB appeared at the inquiry to object on the basis of impact upon the SPA; this involved consideration of avian impacts and European law. The site is close to the final approach path for Doncaster-Sheffield Airport and the Airport appeared to object which involved consideration of radar and air traffic control issues. Powerfuel objected on the grounds of the impact of the proposal for underground mining.
